The first case of COVID-19 pandemic was detected in Wuhan, China and was first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. The first COVID-19 case in India was reported on 30th January 2020, a Kerala student who was studying in Wuhan, China had returned to India at that time.
The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30th January 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) then declared the Novel COVID-19 as a pandemic on 11thMarch 2020.
India reported only three cases till 1st March 2020. However, from 2ndMarch 2020, cases have been reported from multiple states in the country and have been exponentially rising every day.
As on 5th May 2020, the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 1,573 and the total number of cases climbed to 46,606 in India. The number of “Active Cases” in India stands at 32,081 while 12,948 people were cured/discharged/migrated.
To prevent the rapid spread of Novel COVID-19, governments across the world have rolled out individual and community-focused interventions.
These measures include lockdowns, avoiding non-essential travel, identifying and isolating sick people at the earliest, quarantine of the travellers. Also, there would be a dramatic change in the following things, Namaskar, moving from “Social Distancing”to Physical Space Distancing, face hygiene, hand hygiene, washroom hygiene and environmental hygiene.
Unfortunately, the word “Social distancing” has become very notorious instead it should be “Physical Space Distancing”.
